ABOUT THE ESL PROGRAM

Hone your speaking, reading and writing skills at MATC Mequon Campus

Improve your English language skills in the diverse, caring environment provided at

MATC's Mequon Campus,
where we offer:
 
  • Six levels of instruction ranging from beginning literacy to high advanced.

  • On campus and online options.

  • Day classes and evening classes.

  • ESL Workshop, in which students improve their English skills by working independently at their own pace, participate in the Side by Side integrated language skills program in which they work on listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, and focus on grammar and reading in computerized language programs.

  • Classes in Pronunciation as well as Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Reading and Writing.

  • Instruction in developing communication skills through conversation practice.

  • Computer-assisted instruction.

  • Field trips to help students learn about the broader community.

  • Access to counseling and academic advising.

  • International Coffee Hour, a time for students to meet with each other to discuss topics of interest.

Our History

Milwaukee Area Technical College was founded in 1912 and has served the local community by providing training in a wide variety of areas. Today there are four campuses -- Downtown Milwaukee, West Allis, Oak Creek and Mequon.  English language learners are taught at all four campuses. Students can begin studying English or Basic Skills and potentially continue on to any one of 170 different degree, diploma, certificate, and apprenticeship programs.
